Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” at 8 am

20 Aug

Who hasn’t been in this position before? You’re riding a form of public transit, heading to a long day of work. You have your music playing and just want to sing… but can’t. Well, this guy embodies that dream.

Here’s why this clip rocks:

1. The guy is riding a bus in Jersey City at 8 a.m. and starts belting out “California Gurls” by Katy Perry (you might remember the many parodies of this song already out there?).

2. Katy Perry is totally hot right now. She actually just set a record with 5 number one hits off one album. Her album “Teenage Dream” has given the world “California Gurls,” “Firework,” “E.T.,” “Teenage Dream” and most recently “T.G.I.F. (Last Friday Night)” (I called that one). The only other artist with an album like that? Michael Jackson.

3. This guy has a Walkman. Mega retro points.

4. “California Gurls” is an epic song choice. Would only have been better if he sang Snoop Dogg‘s part.

Before you ask, yes, there is an autotuned version with added instruments.

“Teach Me How to Dougie” Rapper Murdered

16 May

Rapper M Bone, a member of the California rap group Cali Swag District, was gunned down last night as he sat in a parked car outside of a liquor store. He was 22.

As the rapper, whose real name was Mante Ray Talbert, sat in the driver’s seat of a car a burst of gunfire erupted from another car. M Bone was shot two times in the head, but a passenger in the car was not injured. The group’s publicist said that M Bone was the victim of random street violence.

The incident occurred in Inglewood around 10:30 p.m. The Cali Swag District burst onto the national scene with their infectious dance hit “Teach Me How to Dougie” last year. The song eventually hit number 28 on the charts, and remained in the top 10 rap songs for several months. Celebrities ranging from CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer to First Lady Michelle Obama have performed the dance.

“I’m crushed. I feel awful. I just want to go sit in a corner. I just lost one of my best friends,” said JayAre of Cali Swag District. “I’ve been with this dude every day for like two years, and like I’m never going to see him again.”

Police have not yet arrested a suspect.

Stone Cold Steve Austin Rick Rolls

Legendary wrestler Stone Cold Steve Austin does one of the best lip-synching impressions of Rick Astley‘s “Never Going to Give You Up” (see the meme), I’ve ever seen.

Beyonce’s “(Girls) Who Run The World” is Worst Pop Song Ever

21 Apr

The over-synthesized pop simply must end. Beyonce’s next single was leaked to the Internet a couple of days ago, prompting the pop singer to release the song earlier than anticipated. The song was just released to iTunes, but Ryan Seacrest got to release the audio track yesterday.

It’s called “(Girls) Who Run The World” and features everything bad about heavily studio-ized music today. It sounds like something that will give you a seizure. It features European club beats, but then adds Beyonce’s same style of vocals as all of her past songs. The two styles clash, and badly.

Add the fact that the chorus keeps repeating, “Who run this mother…” (which pretty blatantly comes across as motherf***er). Yeah, really great message. It’s really repetative and features a simpler beat than Gwen Stefani’s horrible “Hollaback Girl.”

Come on Beyonce. We wanted another “Single Ladies,” not another “Popozao.” Take a listen.
