Whole Foods Awards Grants for 500 School Salad Bars

12 Feb

Pretty cool news here. Thanks to extremely generous support from their customers, Whole Foods Market has awarded grants for more than 500 salad bars to schools across America.

At the start of the campaign, Whole Foods hoped to raise $750,000 for the project. Customers responded with extreme generousity and donated more than $1.4 million. They then partnered with Chef Ann Cooper and awarded the grants.

The company is also a founding partner of Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools, which hopes to provide 5,000 salad bars to schools by 2013. Currently, just one percent of adolescents gets the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables daily.

Want to Make History? Get Conceiving!

11 Feb

If you want to make history, why not try for a baby born on 11-11-11? Time Magazine suggests that people get to work if they want that to happen. Ideally, the best day for a woman to conceive would be February 18. Assuming they have the normal 28 day cycle, that would put there due date on November 11. But…as anyone who has had a child can tell, babies sometimes have a mind of their own. Basically, try and get pregnant in the next couple of weeks, and hope for some cooperation from baby for a taste of history.

Daily Deals Resales Increase

10 Feb

Have you ever bought a deal from Groupon, Living Social or Tippr that you had a hard time using? If yes, then rest assured that several websites waiting to sell you someone else’s unused coupon have sprung up. According to Mashable, websites like CoupRecoup, DealsGoRound, Lifesta and Dealigee have emerged to sell unused daily coupons to other consumers.

Often times, users cannot use the coupons they purchase in time. This tiny niche has allowed for these new companies to emerge. With estimates suggesting that the daily coupon market could reach $5 billion in value this year, that small niche could also become profitable. Again according to Mashable, only 85 percent of coupons are actually reedemed, meaning that 15 percent of all purchases could go towards these new companies.

Keep an eye on this growing market.
