Quinonez Wilson Scores Goal From 270 Feet Away

14 Apr

It’s pretty safe to say that it will take a long time for anyone to top this goal. Colombian goalkeeper Quinonez Wilson scored on a free kick from 83 yards away. That’s more than 270 feet away from the goal. Following the goal, he received a yellow card for removing his shirt in celebration. Some people claim this is a new world record, but who knows. Also, note the lack of people in the stands.

No idea who played in or who won this game.

Scary New Footage From Japan Disasters

12 Apr

With each coming day it seems like there is a new horrifying video from the Japan disasters. In this case, here’s a new video of the tsunami and new aerial footage of the damage to the Fukushima Nuclear Reactor site (which was just today reclassified as a 7 on the disaster scale, out of a possible 7).

1) Tsunami Footage: This horrifying footage shows villagers fleeing on foot as the wall of water flows into their city. It looks like everyone makes it to the hill, but just barely.

2) Fukushima Damage: New aerial footage shows how devastated the nuclear power plant reamins. These images are particularly shocking because the situation actually seemed to be improving previously.

Politicians Caught Red Handed Doing Dastardly Things

12 Apr

One of the great disadvantages to being a public servant is the cameras are always on you. Now, you would think that would make politicians more careful. These two incidents, however, prove that is not always the case.

1) Czech President Steals Chilean President’s Pen: Czech President Vaclav Klaus welcomed Chilean leader Sebastian Pinera to his country and held a meet and greet. At a press conference, he noticed a really nice pen that belonged to Pinera. As the cameras rolled and Peinera began speaking, he took out the pen, switched hands and then pocketed it. All without blinking an eye. He also retained a really guilty look on his face. Most baffling about the whole incident? Why Klaus decided to steal the pen at that moment and why he looked completely uninterested in what Pinera was saying.

2) Indonesian Member of Parliament Busted Watching Porn in Chamber: Again, where do you think you are? The man, who goes by the single name Arifinto, was spotted watching the sexually explicit clips as members of parliament debated a proposed constructing a new building to house the government. Ironically, Arifinto was one of the key supporters of a strict anti-pornography law that went into effect recently. Under that law, he could face years in jail for his offense. Arifinto immediately resigned from parliament and said his staunchly Islamic Prosperous Justice Party did not coerce him to resign. He claims he accidentally opened a random e-mail with the offensive content.

Major Collision at JFK Airport

12 Apr

A really scary accident occurred last evening at JFK Airport last night when an Airbus 380 (Air France Flight 7)— the world’s largest passenger airplane— collided with a much smaller airplane (Comair Flight 6293). The Air France airplane was preparing to take off for Paris when it “touched” the smaller airplane at 8:09 p.m. You can see from the video below that the incident consisted of much more than a brief touch though.

Thankfully, no one was seriously injured in the incident. Sixty-two people were on board the smaller plane, which had just landed from Boston. There were 520 people on the larger airplane. Both planes are being inspected after the incident.

Unluckiest Honeymoon Encounters Six Natural Disasters

11 Apr

You really must feel for swedish couple Stefan and Erika Svanstrom who have had one heck of an unlucky honeymoon. You see, everywhere they turn, disaster happens. Over the course of their trip, they’ve come across six natural disasters. Those disasters, in order:

1. In December, the newly married couple set off on their four-month long honeymoon. They couldn’t leave though because they were stranded in Munich, in the midst of one of Europe’s worst snowstorms.

2. Their next stop turned out to be in the middle of a cyclone (Cairns). Thankfully, this disaster spared the city, for the most part.

3. They moved on to Brisbane, which saw historic levels of flooding that crippled the Australian state.

4.  Their next encounter was with the troublesome brushfires in Perth. The couple was ecacuated and forced to spend an evening on a concrete floor.

5. After the incident in Perth, the couple opted to move on to New Zealand. Right before they arrived, the 6.3 magnitude earthquake hit Christchurch.

6. Finally, they moved on to Tokyo, where the 8.0 magnitude earthquake struck about a month ago.

Talk about an unlucky honeymoon. Thankfully, the couple (and their infant daughter) was largely injured and maintained their sense of humor.

“We’ve certainly experienced more than our fair share of catastrophes in a marriage, but the most important thing is that we’re still going strong. I know marriages have to endure some trials, but I think we have been through most of them,” Mr. Svanstrom told the Sydney Morning Herald.
