My apologies to everyone for not posting for some time now. I hope to make it up to you with some awesome links for your reading pleasure.

1) Pope Warns Of Loneliness: Pope Benedict XVI doesn’t want for people to be lonely, and knows why they might be. The internet. His holiness warned young people not to rely on the new technology.

2) Shout Out to a Fellow WordPress Blog: A new London-based blog has caught my (and Londonist’s) eye. Daniel Brackley is a celebrity in his field and has launched a blog chronicling his daily adventures. What does he do? Well, he’s works in the sewers.

3) Something You Don’t See Today: Take a look at this picture and see if something looks odd about it. LIFE unveiled a gallery of never-before-seen pictures of future President Kennedy from the campaign trail.

Did you see the gun?

4) Why Burgers Don’t Rot: A scientist has finally decided to answer the question of why McDonald’s hamburgers do not rot through scientific study. The answer, according to the experiment: the burgers are small but with a large surface area that allows moisture to evaporate quickly. No moisture, no mold. I don’t buy it.

5) Apparently, NYC’s Worst Kept Secret: This week, a series of posts spoke about a new SECRET subway station in NYC, located underneath City Hall. Apparently, the station has never been abandoned and sly riders have always been able to stop there. I want to go there now, though. Looks really cool.

President Obama Drives 7-Eleven Marketing Push

6 Nov

In his Wednesday interview about Election 2010, President Obama casually mentioned the idea of having a “Slurpee Summit” with Republicans at the White House. The meeting would promote bipartisanship following the most recent election cycle.

7-Eleven jumped at the opportunity to promote their brand. Shortly after the speech, the company contacted the White House about catering the unplanned event. They offered blue and red slurpees for the occasion, and even proposed purple ones as a tribute to red and blue coming together.

A new campaign will claim that Slurpees are “bringing people together.” The company announced a fleet of trucks will drive across the country promoting unity, finally stopping outside of Capitol Hill. 7-Eleven also offered to install Slurpee machines in the White House.

Something Cool and Something Depressing

25 Oct

Depressing first: This video gives me no hope for the future of America. Students at two major universities were asked questions like, “Who is the Vice President?” (Clinton?) and “How many justices are there on the Supreme Court?” (50?)

Cool Next:  An interactive music video. Lots of different endings available.

3,339 Text Messages a Month

14 Oct

That’s average, if you’re between 13 and 17. The average female teen sends 4,050 texts a month, while the average male only sends 2,539.  Those numbers reflect an increase of 8 percent from last year alone.

Also, data usage has quintupled over the same period from 14 to 62 MB per month. Finally, teens now list texting as the primary reason they get a cellphone. Safety ranks second.
