Arrested For Going 85 MPH While Having Backseat Sex

According to court documents filed in Fairfax County, Virginia one man had quite the 21st birthday party. He was arrested under somewhat unorthodox circumstances while driving on the Beltway, the highway that circles Washington DC. The car he was driving allegedly collided with a taxi and that driver now wants $75,000 in damages.

So what was the defendant doing? According to the complaint:

  1. He was driving 85 mph on the Beltway.
  2. He was having sex with a female passenger in the car.
  3. He admitted to driving while drunk.
  4. He was partially or completely in the backseat of the car.

The taxi driver’s lawyer argues that “having sex at 85 miles per hour while drunk on a freeway is willful and wanton negligence.” Not sure I disagree with that.

Vancouver Kissing Couple Identified as Alexandra Thomas and Scott Jones

The photo has become iconic. Taken in an instant during the citywide riots that crippled the Canadian city of Vancouver several nights ago. The photographer was Rich Lam of Getty Images and has said he believes the image he captured is 100% authentic.

Now, the couple is speaking out and they seem to support that conclusion. Alexandra Thomas is Canadian and was watching Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals with her boyfriend Scott Jones, who happens to be Australian. They decided to investigate what was happening downtown after the game, and were knocked to the ground by police officers. Thomas was frightened and Jones decided to comfort her with a kiss.

That moment was captured and the world has now seen it. “When I first saw it, I thought, ‘No way, that’s not … I can’t believe that’s us,’ ” Thomas told the Toronto Sun. “Then I looked some more and realized that is us. That’s a very revealing picture of us.”

Well, it’s located just 25 miles outside of London in Surrey and has a lot of stuff going for it. First and foremost, it is “larger in area than both the royal residences of Hampton Court Palace or Buckingham Palace.”

Among the simple, creature amenities of this home: five swimming pools, 103 rooms,a $6 million marble heated driveway, a 50-seat home theater, an eight-limousine garage , a two-lane bowling alley, and a panic room. The price has been dropped to a new low price of $123 million (down from $143.5 million). So, get on that. I can’t escape the feeling like I would get lost here.

Hockey Player Gives Hitchhiking Bono a Ride

Just because you’re one of the world’s most famous rockers doesn’t mean you can’t get caught out in the middle of a freak rainstorm. That is exactly what happened to U2 frontman Bono and his assistant. The two had decided to go for a walk in West Vancouver, but were caught in the middle of an unexpected torrent.

Luckily, Edmonton Oilers hockey center Gilbert Brule and his girlfriend Kelsey Nichols happened to be driving in the area and offered Bono a ride. The singer asked to be taken to the Horseshoe Bay neighborhood and the hockey player obliged. Bono later rewarded the pair with VIP seats at a show in Edmonton.

Nobel Prize Winner Peter Diamond “Unqualified” for Federal Reserve

Citing opposition from Senate Republicans, MIT professor and Nobel Prize winning economist Peter Diamond has asked the White House to withdraw his nomination to the Federal Reserve’s board of governors.

In an article written for The New York Times, Diamond explained the situation, “Last October, I won the Nobel Prize in Economics for my work on unemployment and the labor market. But I am unqualified to serve on the board of the Federal Reserve — at least according to the Republican senators who have blocked my nomination. How can this be?”

Leading the charge against his nomination was Alabama Republican senator Richard Shelby, who claims that Diamond lacks experience making monetary policy.

“Although Dr. Diamond is a skilled and accomplished theoretical economist, it is clear to many of us that he does not possess the appropriate background, experience, or policy preferences to serve on the Board of Governor,” Shelby has said.

Though Diamond’s nomination cleared the Senate Banking Committee three times, full confirmation by the Senate was unlikely because there was not enough Republican support to reach the 60 votes necessary for confirmation.
