2 Awesome Short Documentaries

27 May

If you have a few minutes, check out these short documentaries. Well worth the quick view.

1) World’s Last Handwritten Newspaper: The Musalman is the world’s oldest Urdu-language newspaper and its also thought to be the last newspaper in the world that is handwritten every day. This is the story of how the newspaper is put together each day and what inspires the people to continue their work. There is no practical reason why they couldn’t have switched over to computer production.

2) If These Knishes Could Talk: So this video is not actually completed yet, but it envisions a documentary about the New York accent. Seems really interesting, and the trailer contains interviews with a lot of interesting people. If you like the trailer, consider donating a few bucks so the filmmaker can afford to finish the project.

Preston Mitchum Plagiarizes His Law School Graduation Speech

24 May

Obviously, those classes didn’t sink in that well. Preston Mitchum had the honor of delivering a student speech at his graduation from N.C. Central University law school. The speech highlighted the familiar themes of being average in such a competitive place, but the themes were familiar because Mitchum had copied them!

The speech originated from Anthony Corvino at Binghamton University last year. Mitchum ended up copying the speech word-for-word in some sections.

“I just don’t want this to have an effect on my career,” said Mitchum.

Corvino later said that Mitchum actually asked his permission via Facebook to give the speech, which he gave. A faculty disciplinary committee will review the allegations, but Mitchum was already given his diploma. He plans to take the bar exam this summer and pursue a further degree.

Venezuela Suspends Driver’s License For First Time Ever

20 May

Following the rules of the road has always seemed to be a suggestion, not mandatory, in most of Latin America. Well, never has that been made clearer than today.

For the first time in the history of Venezuela someone’s driver’s license has been suspended. That’s right, it has never happened before. Ramon Parra, 41, is a bus driver there and has become the first person to lose his license for 12 months.

What was Parra doing? Well, according to news reports, he was “driving at excessive speed in a large, overladen passenger bus that was missing one of its rear wheels. The bus was packed with more passengers than legally permitted and one of its six wheels was wedged in an aisle inside.”

A law allowing authorities to suspend a license was first passed in 2008. The maximum possible suspension is 5 years. Why would you get that? For killing someone.

Playing the Piano With Your Penis

20 May

Two random brothers go on “Greece Has Talent” (or something like that) and show off what they can do: play a piano with their penises.

What a world. Am I right?
