Another Religious Figure Nabbed For Sex Crime

1 Mar

Unfortunately, these stories have become far too common. Today’s culprit from the pulpit is Rev. Grant Storms. In the past, Storms angrily protested the Southern Decadence festival in New Orleans, which celebrated the gay and lesbian lifestyle during a three-day festival during Labor Day weekend.

Today, New Orleans police officers arrested Storms for masturbating at a park while looking at kids playing on nearby equipment. A woman was unloading her car when she spotted Storms in his van. She removed her children from the van and asked another woman to confirm what she saw. After confirming, a park employee called police and watched Storms until they arrived.

Initially, Storms offered perhaps the lamest excuse ever for his behavior. He said that he needed to urinate, but didn’t want to use the restroom and opted for a water bottle. Weird. Later, Storms confessed to having his “hands in his pants” but denied masturbating or any other inappropriate behavior.

17,000 USB Drives Left in Laundries

1 Mar

Today in pointless studies… a PR firm in the United Kingdom interviewed 400 dry cleaners (all located within the United Kingdom) and asked them how many USB drives they recovered from washing machines from forgetful clients. Thankfully, as anyone would expect, these businesses keep meticulous records about the number of USB drives left behind. Those 400 laundromats claimed that 17,000 were left behind in their establishments alone.

Do you know what that means? Throughout the world, there are probably millions of lost USB drives lonely waiting in washing machines because their owners left them behind. Thank you, Cresdant Technologies for alerting us to this epidemic. Don’t let this happen to your USB drive.

Amanda Hocking Shows Power of Kindle

1 Mar

Amanda Hocking is what you would call an indie book author. She has never been formally published. Her blog (run by Blogspot) is called “My Blood Approves” and doesn’t look much different from this blog. She’s 26 and has self-published 8 books and one novella. All of those are available for download on Kindle, Barnes & Noble or other platforms. What’s the big deal then? Well, in January she sold 450,000 copies of those books (of which 99 percent were e-books). Those are really good sales figures for any author, let alone someone who is not traditionally published.

People in the book publishing world should take note. Hocking sells her books for $3. On Kindle, she keeps 70 percent of all sales with Amazon keeping the other 30 percent. The low costs of adding one’s books to these sites, combined with the potential payoff, have led many more fledgling authors to self-publish their works. More than 20 million people read e-books last year. With those numbers bound to increase, the publishing world must adjust its model or be left behind.

Amanda Hocking proves more and more people don’t need to follow the traditional path to success in the book world.

3 Shocking Videos You Have to See

28 Feb

These are three videos that I spotted today. They are all unbelievable, you should watch them.

1) Car Runs Down Bicyclists: These guys in Brazil were participating in a Critical Mass event. At some point, a crazy driver decides to run them down. The entire incident was caught on video. Miraculously, no one was killed. The driver claims self defense (huh?).

2) Skier Falls Down Mountain, Appears Uninjured: Another one of those scenes were you ask, “how is that person still alive after that?” This skier was on top of a mountain and about to ski down, when suddenly he lost his footing. His camera rolls as he falls down the mountain.

3) Soccer Player Kicks Owl During a Game: In this case, the other team’s mascot lands on the field during the game. Another player kicks the ball and it strikes the owl. Play is immediately stopped. After a brief stoppage, another player walks over and kicks the owl. Miraculously, the owl suffered no broken bones in the attack.

Highly Popular, Rated-R Music Scene

27 Feb

In case you don’t follow the music world as closely as I do, I’d like to draw your attention to two songs that made it into the Billboard Hot 100’s Top 10 this week. Somehow I don’t think either of these songs would have been so successful, even 10 years ago.

1) Cee Lo Green— “Fuck You” or “F*** You” or “Forget You”

Now it probably won’t rise next week, but Green’s song has the chance to become the first-ever chart-topper with such an explicit word in it’s title. This song has had incredible staying power. Time Magazine named it the number one song of 2010, but it just reached its peak position on the charts last week. Helped by a Grammy Performance, it hit number 2 on last week’s chart, blocked from the top position by Lady Gaga. Green first released a graphic video for the song, which went viral last summer. Even cynics of pop music have to admit, “this is a big f***ing song.”

2) Rihanna— “S&M”

Yep, this song about particularly kinky sex has been dominating the radio over the past couple of weeks. Just last week it hit number 7 on the chart, and it could be poised for greater heights this week. The music video has been banned by 11 countries because of its explicit content, and features Perez Hilton being walked by Rihanna. Many feared that Rihanna was done, but this sounds like her pop best. Just don’t let people hear you singing the chorus:

‘Cause I may be bad, but I’m perfectly good at it
Sex in the air, I don’t care, I love the smell of it
Sticks and stones may break my bones,
But chains and whips excite me.
