Barack Obama Releases Birth Certificate

27 Apr

Worried that an increasing amount of press coverage of the “birther” movement was crowding out the debate on other important issues, President Barack Obama released a long-form certificate of birth this morning. The document clearly shows that the President was born in a Hawaiian hospital on August 4, 1961.

The White House released the document early this morning, per the President’s order. He arrived at 9:45 a.m. for a statement where he criticized members of the press for their silliness.

On Friday, the President wrote to Loretta J. Fuddy, the director of health at the State of Hawaii, requesting two copies of his original certificate of live birth. She complied. The President’s counsel took a trip to Hawaii, paid for out of the President’s personal account, to retrive the copies and they were released shortly thereafter.

“I know that there is going to be a segment of people for which no matter what we put out, this issue will not be put to rest,” Obama said. “But I am speaking for the vast majority of the American people as well as for the press. We do not have time for this kind of silliness. We have better stuff to do. I have got better stuff to do. We have got big problems to solve.”

Real estate mogul and potential Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, who has been largely responsible for the issue returning to the public conscience in recent weeks, applauded the decision and took personal credit for it.

“Today I’m very proud of myself, because I’ve accomplished something that no one else has been able to accomplish,” said Trump on the release of the president’s birth certificate, according to NBC News. “I want to look at it, but I hope it’s true. … But he should have done it a long time ago.”

Legendary wrestler Stone Cold Steve Austin does one of the best lip-synching impressions of Rick Astley‘s “Never Going to Give You Up” (see the meme), I’ve ever seen.

REVIEW: Marination Station

26 Apr

One of the most hotly anticipated restaurant to open in Seattle actually stems from a food truck. The Marination Mobile truck (“Big Blue” to fans) was voted America’s Best Food Truck by Good Morning America. The truck combines both Hawaiian and Korean flavors in the form of tacos, quesadillas and sliders, among others. It notifies customers by Twitter where it will park on a given day. Since its founding in 2009, business has taken off with lines of hungry lunch customers often stretching around the block.

Business was so good, in fact, that the truck was no longer enough. Owners Kamala and Roz opted to take their mobile business to a brick and mortar establishment. The result is Marination Station, which opened last week above QFC on Broadway in Capitol Hill.

The resulting space is cozy, with little seating. I ventured in before the lunch hour rush, but can only imagine what the space feels like when dozens of hungry people stream inside. Menus are on paper, allowing for easy passing between hungry customers while waiting in line. Perhaps the coolest part of the whole place are the two refrigerators in the space where people wait, which feature compliments of Marination Mobile from fans on Twitter and Facebook. Talk about 21st century communication!

For lunch, I opted for a kimchi quesadilla. Lots of kimchi, kalua pork, cilantro and other goodness. Served warm and absolutely delicious. My vote is you should all go to Marination Station as soon as possible. I didn’t even mention the fact that 50 Cent was the featured music while I waited for my food.

Marissa Mike Makes Hilarious News Blooper Reel

25 Apr

Local news affiliate KPSP covers news in the Coachella Valley and the Southern California. Well, recently they sent out veteran reporter Marissa Mike to cover the news of strong winds that knocked down a traffic light in Desert Hot Springs (or maybe Palm Springs since she changes throughout the outtakes).  Whatever knocked down that traffic light stuck around. You have to admire Mike’s devotion to wearing a baseball cap, since she appears to do so throughout her reporting (in spite of the problems she keeps running into). I want to see what the finished version of the story looked like.

Nice dedication!
